Date Balls, Energy Balls, Energy Bites, call it whatever you want, it’s the same thing. Super easy to make, just three ingredients, very healthy, quick and easy and best of all, stores well in the fridge (if you can manage to stop yourself from eating all of them in one sitting, because I couldn’t 👎).
You will need:
- 1 cup of dates
- 1 cup of raw almonds
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- Optional add ins: cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice, ginger, grated carrot, pinch of sea salt, vanilla, protein powder, some dried fruit, peanut butter powder, dry coconut, flax seeds, pumpkin or sunflower seeds (whatever ya fancy at this point basically, just keep in mind that you will have to play around with the consistency depending on the extra add ins)🌰🍑🍫☕
- A food processor
- Dump the almonds into the food processor first and let it run until it turns into a nice and fine powder, kind of like almond flour (unless you want it slightly bigger and chunky)
- Next, just throw in the rest of your ingredients and process until it all comes together like a dough
- Form them into equal sized balls and enjoy! 👏
Tip: If the dates are too dry or hard to process, either chop them in pieces first before adding to the food processor or soak them for about 20 minutes in warm water to soften them up.
Now obviously, this is a very basic recipe and you can go wild with it, replace one ingredient with another, use some other nuts like cashews to make it a little richer, hazelnuts to make it like nutella (hazelnuts + cocoa powder) or add in some coffee for some extra energy, dust them in cocoa powder or melted dark chocolate or roll them in shredded coconut to give it a more professional look, or shape them into squares or rectangles to make them “Energy bars” instead of “Energy Bites“.
